Frequently Asked Questions

How does the design develop?

The design will be created in collaboration with you, to ensure it meets your exact requirements.

How many fittings will we need?

There is an initial chat through and then generally there will be about 4 fittings, depending on the complexity of the design.

Who orders the fabric?

Usually, I do unless you have already sourced fabric from abroad.

From where do you source the fabrics?

I purchase fabric from wholesalers in Leeds and London I will order sample fabrics in for the second/toile fitting so that we discuss your fabric whilst considering the toile.

Who does the work?

All stages are done by me, from the initial design to the dressmaking and all the finishing touches. If at any stage, you have any doubts then I only progress to the stage about which you are sure and then add an additional fitting to discuss the final elements.

How much do your bespoke handmade dresses cost?

Following the first chat-through, I will provide an initial indicative costing and a quote. The quote is divided into goods and labour.

Wedding Dresses generally vary from £700-£1,500. The cost will depend on the style and fabric of the dress. The main cost is the fabric: some fabrics are £10/metre and others are £100/metre, some dresses need 2 metres and others need 20 metres! The quote will be for your dress, your choice of style and your choice of fabrics.

The cost of bridesmaid dresses, mother-of-the-bride outfits, evening dresses and prom dresses is usually considerably lower as they are generally simpler styles, although again costs will depend on complexity and fabric.

When will payments be due?

When you have decided that I will be creating your dress, I ask for a £100 deposit.

When ordering the fabric, the cost of the fabric is required to be transferred as the fabric is non-refundable.

On the final fitting, the rest of the bill is to be transferred across.

If I have a favourite old dress, can it be copied?

Yes, this can work well for a much-loved style of top or dress.

Do you do alterations?

Yes, I alter dresses with the same precision that I apply to designing and creating dresses.
